The high-level dialogue held in Nairobi County focused on youth leadership and gender equality, highlighting persistent barriers that prevent young people, especially young women, from accessing leadership roles. Despite progressive policies in Kenya such as the two-thirds gender rule and the national policy on women’s economic empowerment, challenges like weak implementation, high political costs, and entrenched patriarchy continue to restrict meaningful inclusion.
The forum convened by the Club de Madrid Neurotrust Network and the SDG’s Kenya included youth leaders, government officials, development partners, civil society organizations, and a former head of state. Discussions emphasized the need for governments and institutions to transcend symbolic gestures and implement concrete strategies that enable youth participation through education, mentorship, and leadership inclusion.
